Parenting Tip – Take the time to hug your children – and your partner – every day

Making sure that we take the time out to hug our children on a daily basis is one of the most important things that we can do as parents. As simple as the gesture is, it’s been proven to benefit children in more ways than one. Not only is it a great way of expressing our love and building a stronger connection with our children, it can also help alleviate symptoms of stress and can even help improve their concentration.

When we hug or kiss a loved one, a powerful hormone called Oxytocin is released, which is also known as the ‘love’ hormone and helps to promote parent-child bonding. Hugging our children also helps to reduce the levels of the Cortisol hormone, which is triggered when we feel stressed, and in high concentration can lead us to feel anxious, fatigued and more susceptible to illness.

So, take the time out each day to give your child – and your partner if you have one! – a hug and you’ll find that it benefits them on an emotional, behavioural as well as physical level.

Inspirational Quotes:

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”  ― Leo Buscaglia
